Supporting Autistic Kids

Kabosu 4 Kids raises funds for life-changing equipment and programs for Autistic kids, delivered by Variety - the Children's Charity. Grants to support Autism are Variety's most requested area of support and can range from service dogs, sensory equipment and rooms, educational devices and support, assistive technology and more.

Service dogs

Service dogs are working animals that are specially trained to help kids living with disability to manage sensory issues, move around, do everyday activities and tasks, and be more independent. They are also kids best frens, just like Kabosu!

Confidence

Dogs provide companionship and are a best friend for kids living with anxiety and other disorders. The dogs reassuring presence grows kids confidence to interact with their peers and form strong social connections, often for the very first time.

Independence

Dogs are trained to be tethered alongside kids for safety and security. The dogs sit or lie down to anchor them, allowing safe visits near roads and other public areas getting kids out and about in the community and taking part in day to day activities.

Anxiety Relief

With their tuned in senses, trained dogs can detect an oncoming anxiety attack in kids and intervene by nudging, applying contact pressure or licking to induce calm. These special dogs can even retrieve a parent or carer to provide assistance to their child.

Meet Jake (Jackson)

Jake is seven years old and full of curiosity, energy, and determination. But for much of his young life, everyday experiences – like walking down the street or attending therapy – were incredibly overwhelming.

In early 2025, Jake received a life-changing gift through Variety thanks to Kabosu 4 Kids: an assistance dog named Echo. And after just three months, Echo has already transformed his world.

Jake lives with level 3 autism, ADHD, a mild intellectual disability and chronic asthma. Sensory overload, mobility challenges and anxiety made it difficult for him to engage with the community or feel safe outside the home. But since Echo arrived, Jake has started walking around the block unassisted, participating more in therapy, and connecting in ways his family once only dreamed of.

Even Jake’s support team are amazed at the progress he’s made in such a short time. And Echo’s impact hasn’t stopped there – she also helps Jake’s sister Zoe co-regulate during therapy, and brings quiet comfort to mum at the end of long days.

"Jake’s entire support team talk about how much progress he has made in such a short space of time – and it’s all because of Echo. Thank you, Variety!”

Meet Elliot

Elliot is a bright and curious 10-year-old who loves stories, building things, and being near animals. He was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) when he was just three years old. Since then, he’s faced many daily challenges - especially when it comes to communication.

Elliot often struggles to express his needs and emotions, which can lead to moments of frustration and emotional distress. For his family, watching him try so hard to be understood has been both heartbreaking and motivating. They’ve spent years searching for ways to help him feel safer, calmer, and more connected to the world around him.

One powerful solution stood out: a service dog.

Thanks to Kabosu 4 Kids this dream is now a reality adn Elliot is being matched with a dog. These specially trained companions provide more than just friendship - they offer emotional stability, help reduce anxiety, and can even act as a bridge for social connection. With the gentle, grounding presence of a dog by his side, Elliot will feel more secure and confident, making it easier for him to communicate and connect with others.

Because of your support, Elliot’s application for an assistance dog is now moving forward. This is a huge milestone for his family - one that brings hope after years of waiting.

Together, we’re giving Elliot the chance to experience the calming companionship and emotional support he needs to thrive. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

This is the impact of kindness. This is Kabosu 4 Kids.

Even More Support

Supporting Autistic kids requires equipment that caters to their unique sensory and developmental needs. Sensory tools like noise-cancelling headphones, weighted blankets, and fidget toys can help manage sensory sensitivities and provide comfort. Communication devices, such as tablets with speech-generating apps, can aid non-verbal children in expressing themselves.

Visual aids, including picture cards and visual schedules, are effective in helping children understand routines and expectations. Additionally, adaptive seating and specialised furniture can offer the necessary support for those with motor skills challenges, promoting focus and engagement in various activities.
